Liverpool stay top with convincing away win
Liverpool have today beaten Blackburn Rovers 3-1 to stay top of the Premier League table. Rafa Benitez' men remain a point clear at the top of the table ahead of Chelsea after a convincing victory at Ewood Park.
It was Xabi Alonso who put the visitors ahead just after the hour mark when he coolly slotted home from 18 yards. Liverpool doubled their lead just ten minutes later when Yossi Benayoun finished past Paul Robinson in the Rovers net from a tight angle.
Credit to Paul Ince's men, they didn't give up and they were rewarded when Roque Santa Cruz got on the end of a Keith Andrews corner to head the ball beyond Jose Pepe Reina. The home side's chances of getting a point from the game were ended just minutes later when Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard placed the ball into an empty net to send the travelling fans home happy.
Good result for Liverpool. Many people had predicted a tough afternoon in store for them, however they made it look easy and it certainly sets them up very nicely for the busy weeks ahead. Personally I fear for Ince. This was their eleventh Premier League game without a victory and they are no in serious trouble.
Elsewhere in the Premier League it finished : Arsenal 1-0 Wigan, Bolton 0-2 Chelsea, Newcastle 2-2 Stoke City, Hull City 2-1 Middlesbrough, Fulham 1-1 Manchester City
