Chelsea and Spurs to fight it out for former Liverpool and Real striker
Chelsea and Tottenham have today both been linked with moves for Newcastle United striker Michael Owen. The England international has found it hard to produce his best form at St James' Park since his £17 million move from Real Madrid back in 2005 and a January exit could be on the cards.
The former Liverpool star has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City but their interest is believed to have cooled, however Chelsea and Spurs are now ready to enter the race. Both Luiz Filipe Scolari and Harry Redknapp are keen to add to their attacking options come the new year and Owen is seen a possible acquisition for either side.
With Owen's contract set to expire at Newcastle come the end of the season, Joe Kinnear may be forced to cash in on the player once the transfer window opens. A £4 million move has been speculated however the Magpies will obviously be keen to get every penny they can for the 28-year old. I personally think a move to White Hart Lane would be beneficial for both Owen and Spurs.
Tottenham would be getting a proven goalscorer in the Premier League while Owen will be playing week in week out for a terrific club (no offence Newcastle). Owen costs just £6.5 million in this season's "You the Manager" and my opinion is definitely worth a look.
