Tottenham ready to make smart move for United defender
With Newcastle United now a Championship side, there is bound to be some big name players leaving St James' Park in the coming months and one of those could be Steven Taylor.
The England under-21 international has today been linked with a move to Harry Redknapp's Tottenham.
Taylor has come out in recent days and stated his desire to stay at Newcastle and help them bounce straight back up to the Premier League, however with the Magpies struggling financially, they may be forced to cash in on some of their most prized assets and Taylor is certainly one of them.
The 23-year old has made 150 appearances for the North East club over the past seven years, scoring just 9 goals in the process. Spurs are keen to add to their defensive options once the transfer window opens and I firmly believe a move for Taylor would be very smart.
With Ledley King's constant injury problems, Taylor would provide terrific cover and at only £5 million or so, I think he would prove great value for money for the White Hart Lane club. Having said that, I would be surprised if Spurs were the only side chasing Taylor's signature come July 1st.
What do you think? Comments below please.

Rumour from the Lane regarding Taylor is a swap deal involving Bent, Huddlestone and 5m for Taylor, I think its good for us (Spurs) as we need a good centreback to go with Woodgate!

This is a horrible deal. Taylor is no better than Dawson, actually I rate him below Dawson. I've seen Taylor play his entire Newcuntsal career and has made many mistake which are basic fundamentals.
I'm sorry, we can do alot better.
