Why on earth would Chelsea want to sign this guy?

It came much to my surprise this evening to see Chelsea have been linked with a summer move for Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes. The 28-year old has done little to impress since he moved to White Hart Lane last summer for a fee believed to be £7.8 million so why London's Evening Standard have reported this is just beyond me.

Ok, current Chelsea number one Petr Cech hasn't been too convincing of late but he is still considerably better than Gomes no matter what way you look at it. Maybe I am being a bit harsh on Gomes, but for a player of his ability to be linked with one of the best sides in Europe is a joke.

What do you think? Comments below please.

I think your assumption is incorrect.
Gomes is by far the best shotstopper i have seen at spurs for quite some time, and he makes some world class saves. I think the blunders were mostly caused by pressure and the inability to communicate with the defense.

If spurs sell him, then they will regret it.

i agree with the guy above me, Gomes gets a bit of a raw deal from both fans and media.

its seems to be 1 rule for gomes, and 1 rule for evry1 else.

if say van der saar, cech, or reina make a mistake, its reported in the paper as "he was unlucky" or "he might be a bit dissapointed" or "he would have liked to do better with that"

where as when gomes makes a mistake, hes branded a clown, and the mistake is an awful blunder, the worst anyone has ever seen and so on.

gomes will prove to be a top keeper, Spurs will regret it if they sell him.

Gomes is mainly responsible for Tottenham having the second best home defensive record in the premier league (9 goals conceded in 16 games) and is being put down for errors made early in his spurs career when the whole team wasn't performing. I hope that Chelsea see it the same way and leave him alone as he has the potential to become a WHL legend!!

Gomes for a few months now has been very solid and performed very well, dont base your opinion on him from the first few games of the season, he is over that now.

He has made some world class saves and rarely put a foot wrong for a while now.

It was Gomes that won the game against Chelsea. He had an immense game there. He started out like an English goalkeeper at Spurs, but now he is playing very well I think. And without him Spurs would have lost with 3-4 goals against Chelsea, so Ramos obviously did something right at the club. He is even keeping Cudicini out of the team, something neither I nor Carlo thought he would before the new year.
