Liverpool's miserable season reached an all-time low today as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side
It all looked to be going well for the Reds when Dirk Kuyt put the Premier League side in the lead after a half an hour of the game but

Rafa Benitez' men currently lye fifth in the Premier League three points behind arch rivals Everton and the same margin outside a Champions League place. They face Inter Milan in midweek in the first knock-out round of the Champions League and if today's performance is to go by they will be hammered by the Serie A side.
Benitez has this season been under pressure by new owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet and this result will only pile more and more pressure on the Spaniard. Although I can't see the Americans sacking Benitez just yet I feel if they fail to get a result on Tuesday then it may be time for Benitez to pack his bags and leave Anfield.

The players have to share the blame but Rafa's rotation policy has screwed up the team. In fact, you can't call them a team. They don't play enough games together to become a team. Yes we won the Champions league, but being almost 20 points behind Arsenal and struggling every round of the cup and now out of it-sack him!!

DO NOT forget the silverware we have won with Rafa and remember also we had a net spend the same as Pompey in the summer - we ARE NOT INVESTING like the other big clubs - consequently Rafa does not have the same quality to hand - consequently we fight for fourth place.
We NEED INVESTMENT, and no matter who is in charge will not succeed with these tight yanks in charge.

Of course fans of other clubs want Benitez to be longer at Liverpool, because while he is Liverpool won´t be of any relevance in the league for years to come.
To leave the captain out of the team is a disgrace as well as the substitution of Babel for Kewell who simply just isn´t doing a single thing for the team.
The correct headline should have been: "Tactician Benitez not getting it".

Funds to buy good players? Please, even if he had them, he cannot get the best from them. Rotating them at the absolute wrong times!
Trick is: Get the best players out, score a few goals, and then rest them. He's doing the reverse and it's to late when we're drawing or losing with 20 mins to go.

As a neutral, maybe Liverpool fans will finally realise that this isn't the 70's or 80's and Liverpool are no longer a top team. They are an average team that over-achieved a couple of years ago with huge slices of luck to win the CL.
They should accept that their target will always be to finish 4th and maybe get past the group stages of the CL.
As a club in decline Liverpool are now in the same mini-league as Spurs, Villa, Everton and Man city although the other teams are on the up.
It is easy to blame the manager but the reality of it is that the club have been mismanaged since the 1980's and are living of past glories which are way beyond the current club and will be for decades to come.

Like I said we need investment like the rest of the top 4. Gone are the days when you play the same 11 week in week out - name ONE top manager that does that.
It was the cup FFS, we have a massive game on tuesday and the prospect of new owners with money to spend - then we can really judge Rafa.
We do not need another 4-5 seasons of trying a new manager with no more funding than Rafa. Plus Rafa has been investing heavily in youth which needs time (as Wenger had when he did the same and Arsenal won nothing).
Stability and continuity are what breed success, ask Wenger and Fergie - they had support even when they were winning F-All

As a supporter of Benitez i really do believe that he can turn it around if given at least one more year, but unfortunately the new owners have only been here to see the poor series of events that have occurred this season so i find it hard to believe that rafa will survive past may. I guess our only hope is when this happens we can nab someone like (gulp) Jose Mourhino

There are probably only two teams in England have had a higher net spend than Liverpool in the past five years - Chelsea and Man U. However, in the league we are failing to do better the likes of Everton, Villa, City and even Pompey. If Rafa can't even get the better of teams with a similar budget, it begs the question "What is he adding to the club?" After all, how many of those teams boast players of the class of Torres or Gerrard?
This is the fourth year of rebuilding by Rafa, yet the signs suggest the team may actually be going backwards. I hope he can turn it around, but seven of the eleven starters today were signed by Benitez...

Some 'fans' are so fickle to think that Rafa can just wave a magic wand and produce the premiership title.
We do not invest enough to win it, and are not likely to until DIC come in. The american owners do not want to invest heavily - and literally can't with £30M interest to pay per year.
Of course we are continually performing better than teams around us (and we still have 13 games to play). How many CL finals have Everton, Pompey or City been to. How many times have they finished 3rd?
Just think to yourself what would have happened to Arsenal or Utd if Wenger or Fergie had been sacked during 'barren' times. The trick is to be PATIENT.
We are competing for 4th because that is where we are. If we want to get higher we need investment and a long term strategy to bring in youthful players - which is underway already and needs time.
So stop, think and consider the implications of WHO would do any better with the limited funds? And do you really want another 5 seasons of MORE rebuilding.

I can think of a few who could do better. Hughes, Keen, Maurine to mention a few.
As for the starting from scratch if Rafa went, why? The blocks are there already. Look at Grant when he took over at Chelski, it's called sucession. Rafa has done a great job, but since Pako left we've only headed in one direction, downwards!
Maybe we should replace Rafa with Pako!

People LIVERPOOL FC is elite club. You do not become top club in 10-20-30 years. History and cups give the character of an elite side. A club is build from academy till the managers. Benitez is invesring in future with young talents. Every team and even civilization have their ups and downs. Where were the arsenal,man utd or chelsea when we were lifting 18 championships and five cl cups? Indeed is embarasing the present situation but can you recall when arsenal was knocked out from a cup by a fourth division team?

If you think Benitez should be removed from his position then please state your case but show some fucking respect. He's brought us a european cup and for that he'll be forever fondly remembered. And if you think getting to european cup finals is such a breeze, in 3 years, Benitez has qualified Liverpool for as many european finals as any other english club has managed in their entire histories. And let's see how many we qualify for in the next 20 years. People have very short memories.

People make me laugh. We've had a poor season, there's no getting away from that but are we really going to give up on the Benitez project so quickly. A project which is relatively successful. We've got the 3rd most expensive squad in the league and for the last two seasons we've finished 3rd. That's the simple economic reality. Only Arsenal can compete with United and Chelsea and that's because Wenger has been allowed to develop a scouting network and build up a group of talented youngsters. The same as Rafa is doing.
Some of the comments on here are shameful. They demonstrate what our clubs become over the last 18 years or so though. With fans like some of you, Liverpool aren't special anymore.

listen if it was a situation where liverpool were playing some really good stuff and the bit of luck, which is needed over a season not just three or four games, was lacking and you could see a certain pattern of play and inventivness we could all sit back and say right we can see where benitez is going here and could be confident in the fact that it will be turned into good results. but the fact is, in my opinion, looking at liverpool week in week out its like benitez's first game in charge every game. we have different players playing in different positions every week and it's not working....at all. i think like some players benitez has to stand up and be counted and play his best team every week and i'm sure the way they play and results will change drastically. just a bit of fluency and familiarization throughout the team. but what we have is players running into each other not knowing how to play with each other coz of rotation. we all can't be that ignorant here. benitez is to blame.

I love Rafa. I really do. But he just doesn't learn by his mistakes. How many times have seen him make this mistake of fielding a side which isn't his strongest? I wish he would just put out his strongest team possible and then, if we are comfortable at 60-70mins make changes.
This is the second to last nail in his coffin. If we go out against Inter then I think he'll go. I think a short term replacement, like Thommo could be brought in just to steer us to champions league qualification. He did a good job when Houllier was ill. In fact, over the course of his time in charge, think 18 games or so, he got more points than any other manager. I doubt he's a tactial whizz like Rafa is, but he is schooled in the Shankly and Paisley way of always playing your best team.

i dont deny Rafa has brought success to the club in recent years but only in Europe... its not half as bad but lets face it... we want the league... its been 18 years and still waiting.... are we going to let man united take over our reputation as the most successful club in england... Look to win the Premierleague we have to get rid of Rafa... but to hopefully win more cups in the coming years we can keep him I am all in favour for Rafa to stay but he has to stop playong the blame game and just focous on finishing in the top four and starting over agan...
Its unfortunate though because I really thought this would be our year, we got good players in the Summmer Babel and Torres being the best of the bunch but it seems to me Rafa doesn't know how to use them properally...
