Magpies striker linked with £16 million exit
According to the journal, new Wigan manager Steve Bruce is lining up a £16 million move for Newcastle United striker Michael Owen. The player who was linked with a move to the JJB before joining Newcastle two years ago and they are apparently lining up a fresh bid for the injury plagued striker in January.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has apparently received a January transfer list from Bruce and Owen is rumoured to be on it. Owen has been linked with a move away from St James' since joining them really, with Manchester City and Liverpool apparently keen on the 27-year old.
It would be one of the transfers of the year to sign Owen and it probably won't happen but I wouldn't rule out a move to someone else. It is clear that Man City need a striker and I have a feeling they may bid for the player, although they may be concerned at the growing number of injuries he has been sustaining.

I'm a Newcastle fan and I say for 16M he's all yours. You'd be lucky to get 20 games a season out of him and his wages would pay two if not three players.

I'd even let him go for free.He is using us. Too much centres around his presence at the Toon. We'd be better off without him- financially and team spirit-wise.

I honestly cannot seeing him going from 50,000 plus crowds at Newcastle to go to Wigan who average around 17,000. Plus his wage demands may kybosh the deal.
However don't count a bid from Man City out.
Let's face it on form and fit there are fewer better in the game today, but he's been plauged with injuries over the lasty couple of years and may be past his best.
The old adage in football is when you lose your speed you'd better know how to play the game if you want to last. Look at Shearer and Keegan they managed to do that.
I'm not sure that Owen will.
Any way the real loss would be someone signing Martins in the January transfer market.
Cheers!

He could be leaving but I dont think to Wigan. When he leaves I think it will be a good thing for the Magpies.
Newcastle needs players who are available most of the time and not player who spent nearly the whole season injured.
