Madrid eye Liverpool star
According to today's News of the World, Spanish side Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. The 26-year old signed a new deal with the Reds back in June that will keep him at the club until 2012 but Atletico are very keen to bring him back to Spain.
Alonso was signed by Liverpool back in 2004 for a fee of £10.5 million and has quickly become a fan favourite but Liverpool have an abundance of centre midfielders and Atletico want to offer guaranteed football week in week out.
It would be a real shame to see Alonso leave the Premier League and I'm keeping my fingers crossed he doesn't. He has been a terrific player for Liverpool but with Gerrard, Leiva, Mascherano and Sissoko all playing for two places it has been tough. He is expected to return from an injury in the coming days and hopefully he can get back in the Reds starting eleven.

A player of his calibre is worth at least 28 million GBP. Remember Reyes? He was 24 million GBP. So Alonso with contract signed up to 2012 will definitely be that much.
Can Athletic Madrid afford it? Dunno. Will Alonso leave? If rafa does I think he will.
