What are Manchester City playing at?

Ask any Manchester City fan who has been the club's player of the season and they'll all say Stephen Ireland.

The (former) Republic of Ireland international has been in outstading form all season, earning recognition from the PFA who nominated him for the Young Player of the Year award back in April. Why he didn't actually win the award was beyond me, but it certainly hasn't upset his form in any way.

Ireland, 22, has been in the form of his life this campaign, scoring 13 goals in all competitions for Mark Hughes' men, however the City playmaker has today revealed the world's richest club have yet to make him an acceptable contract offer.

"We're nowhere with the contract ... I don't know if I'm going to sign or not. The club haven't really made an offer yet. If they make one great - if not, I have got two years left."

Being a City fan myself, I was shocked to see Ireland's comments today. There is no doubting his importance to the side and I feel it's vital we tie him down to a long-term deal if we are to progress and become one of the biggest club's in the world. I am sure the majority of you will agree that Ireland deserves to be rewarded for his sensational form of late.

Seriously Ciy, give the guy whatever he wants because he deserves it. What do you think? Comments below please.

Give em a chance to make an offer, you think City are just gonna forget about it? Ireland is using the press to his own advantage... stop flapping, bleeding paddys, your all the same!

I think as soon as you consider who his agent is this story becomes far less of a story- one Willie Mckay. He would make having a cup of tea a difficult f**king experience, let alone trying to negotiate a contract. He will be signed up soon enough, its just a comment from Ireland on where things currently are and Willie McKay making sure its been spread through the media like wildfire.

I expect they will be leaving any contract negotiations until the close season. You wouldn't want to risk distracting your talent with these things when he still has two years left on the current deal.

However, if this is the case then I would expect the Club to have made this clear to Stevie and would be surprised if he did actually make these comments.

Join the rest of your fellow City fans, we are all voluntarily blind to media speculation and propaganda.

Don't bite the hook, City have not even offered a new contract and Ireland still has 2 years left on his cuurent contract, aslo Ireland has pledged himself verbally to City.

"Give the guy whatever he wants"? What planet are you from you fool? £60000 per week is well enough, if he then improves some more then renegotiate some more....in a couple of years. WTF is Wayne Bridge doing on 80K a week anyway!!?? He's shite.

The Football Club are delighted with Ireland, its a mutual appreciation thing.
This is just the start of the rolling media barrage against us that will run through the summer.
All based on lies, distortions or just plain nonsense.
The truth is out there but not written about this football club.
