Man City sign Given to take January spending to £50 million, however it may still rise to £90 million

Manchester City have this evening completed the signing of Shay Given for an undisclosed fee. The Republic of Ireland international was givepn permission to speak to City on Friday and he underwent a medical this afternoon before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal at the club.

Given, 32, becomes City's fourth signing of the January transfer window after Wayne Bridge, Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong also joined the club. It is believed the four deals cost a combined fee of nearly £50 million, however it is thought that Mark Hughes may not be finished there in the market. The transfer window will close at 5pm on Monday afternoon but City could still bring in another one or two new players.

It is understood that City will make bids for both Roque Santa Cruz and Miguel Veloso which would take their spending up to nearly £90 million. Both players have been heavily linked with a move to Eastlands in recent days and in my opinion, both would prove great additions to an under acheiving squad.
