Chelsea scrape past Cluj, while Liverpool cruise by PSV

Chelsea have tonight booked their place in the latter stages of the Champions League after a home win against CFR Cluj, whilst Liverpool beat PSV in Eindehoven to confirm their passage through to the next round as group winners.

Chelsea knew they needed to win to guarantee their qualification for the last 16 of the tournament and they just about managed that. Goals from Salmomon Kalou and substitute Didier Drogba helped Luiz Filipe Scolari's men to a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge. Yssouf Kone grabbed the visitors only goal which pulled the side's level for all of fifteen minutes, however the strength of the Premier League side proved too much for Cluj.

Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez' Liverpool came from behind to beat PSV 3-1 in Holland. The Reds fell behind ten minutes before the break when Danko Lazovic struck the ball past Diego Cavaleiri from all of six yards. However goals from Ryan Babel, Albert Riera and David Ngog ensured Liverpool topped Group D and will now avoid facing any other group winners in the next round.

Elsewhere in the Champions League it finished : Roma 2-0 Bordeaux, Panathinaikos 1-0 Anorthosis Famagusta, Werder Bremen 2-1 Inter Milan, Barcelona 2-3 Shakhtar Donetsk, Basle 0-1 Sporting Lisbon, Marseille 0-0 Atletico Madrid.
