Arsenal and Spurs ready to battle for £13 million striker
Arsenal and Tottenham are ready to move for Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins when the January transfer window opens. The Nigerian international recently stormed off after been substituted during Newcastle's 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday and it has now been speculated he could be off in January.
With both Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp understood to be in the market for a new striker, Martins is now seen as a possible acquisition. The 24-year old has a buy-out clause in his contract of £13 million, a figure that both Wenger and Redknapp are willing to meet.
Martins moved to St James' Park back in 2006 from Italian giants Inter Milan and has since gone on the become a real fan favourite at the club. It was speculated earlier this season that many of the Magpies first team were planning the leave the club following the controversial departure of Kevin Keegan and Martins was one of them.
There is no doubting Martins is one of the best strikers in the Premier League at the moment but personally I feel he needs to leave Newcastle to before he can progress. If he was to move to Arsenal he would be surrounded by quality and I have no doubt he would prove at hit at the Emirates.
