United target £15 million Spurs star

According to today's Daily Mirror, Newcastle United are preparing a bid for Tottenham defender Ledley King.

New Magpies boss Kevin Keegan is keen to add to his defensive options in the coming days after he was told he does have money to spend by United woner Mike Ashley.

Keegan is prepared to bid as much as £15 million on the England defender, a lot of money in my view for a player who always seems to be prone to injury.

King is a terrific defender that any team would love to have at their disposal. He only played seven league games in 2007 due to several injuries and I feel that would put off Keegan and I'm pretty sure Juande Ramos would reject any bid for the player.

This is utter rubbish. Complete fabrication. As if Spurs would even dignify such a request.

Another geordie, fog on the tyne, misty-eyed dream.....why would anyone think that King or Berbatov for that matter would go anywhere near a club with Newcastle's chequered past? Its as unstabile now with Keegan in charge as ever before, the bloke looks like he's just been dug up.

Even if Spurs were daft enough to ever sell King I believe King recognises the time, money and effort Spurs have put in in getting King fit to play again. We have had a world class defender in the treatment room on full pay for years and he will pay us back, with, I believe, a career stint at Spurs - this is highlighted by the fact that King has openly questioned Sol Campbells antics all those years ago....

If this were true...and it isn't, Spurs would be stupid to pass it up. This would make the most sense to liquidate some used goods
