Liverpool close on £10 million Argentine ace
Liverpool are said to be close to signing Racing Santander centre-back Ezequiel Garay for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is keen to add to his defensive options and Garay is said to be Benitez' next target. Benitez recently signed defender Martin Skrtel from Zenit St Petersburg and this clearly shows Benitez' intentions.
The Argentine international is apparently keen on a move to the Premier League and it seems as though Liverpool are close to offer Garay his dream move. Garay joined Santander back in 2005 from Newell's Old Boys and has shone ever since.
I have only seen Garay once or twice and he looks very good and capable of playing for a top side like Liverpool. If Liverpool are to sign Garay it could spell the end for Sami Hyypia at Anfield and I'm sure a lot of Liverpool fans will be sad to see him leave.

Buying quality defenders doesn't make a side defensive. Good defenders allow midfielders and attackers more confidence and freedom.

should have not wasted the 6 million on skrtel, and used the £16million to buy a world class striker to partner torres! oh! anelka went for 15million, i rest my case!

We could buy a striker with that money, but we'd still have defensive issues wouldn't we. Finnan, Hypia and Aurelio are old on the verge of Zimmer frame users, thats 3 defenders that'll need replacing. These 2 will give use more youth, speed and goals, something we've always been missing from defence, and like anonymous above said, more confidence in midfield. Skrtel and Garay in 1 window, that'd do for me. Sure its not going to win us the league, but neither will buying 1 more Torres.

Real Madrid are trying to secure this guy, but LFC hold the aces.
They want to loan - Zhar & Seb Leto.
If Liverpool loan these two players, they then will get forst refusal when he becomes available.

3 zimmer frame defenders are Finnan, Hyypia and Aurelio ..... you talk complete nonsense....go learn something before you comment! Hyypia 34, yes old, but has been vital this season due to injuries. Finnan is 31 .... hardly old for a fullback considering Maldini's 39 and still going, also Cafu, Thuram! Aurelio ? HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA the guys 28!
We've already brought in 1 central defender as extra cover and Hobbs by all accounts is getting better and better(just needs experience), I'm with what "talk sense man"'s opinion is that earliest anhthing will happen is summer

yeah Hyypia has been vital this season. why? because we don't have anyone else!
No doubt that he is a legend, but he has his best years behind him, and I say the same, more strength en spees in defense will allow the midfielders more attacking freedom

the fact is we do need to bolster the defence to allow the rest of the team to play well, finnan hasn't been as goodthis year as in previous seasons and arbeloa is over rated, riise has been off form, hyypia is on his last legs and aurelio has been harry kewell mark II. that leaves us with carra and agger, plus the new signing, therefore we need more defenders and i would be happy if we bought Garay

We need Klas Huntelaar (sorry if i seplt his name rong). he would be amzingwith torres skrel should be trained to be a Rb then it would be garay and cara in cb and riise Lb we also need wingers ..i suggest quersma and lennon but doubtful

just sell Carra problem solved at the back....yeah! before you choke on your overrated cup of tea, the next time you watch lfc play watch how most of the defensive woes are caused by carra and his lack of footballing abilities i.e poor distribution, speed, attacking purpose. in his defence i would say he his an above average shot blocker (the minimum requirement for a defender in div 1 & 2).
