United target £14 million Bayern star !

Man United are set to make an approach for Bayern Munich full back Philipp Lahm in the January transfer window according to reports in The Times today.

Lahm is probably best known for his opening goal in the 2006 World Cup in Germany where he cracked in from the edge of the box for the host nation against Costa Rica. He set another record in that World Cup as he was the only German to play every minute of their 690 minutes of playing time. The 24 year old was also on the shortlist for World Player of the Year that year.
However, Lahm has also performed very well for his club side and helped them to the Bundesliga and German Cup titles in 2006.

I would think that if United were to put in a bid for the German international that it will be for between £12 million and £14 million. The arrival of Lahm may also trigger the departure of Wes Brown who is yet to sign a new contract at the club.

  1. This would be a good move for United. Lahm is still young and very skilled, and he's proven his ability to go forward and join the attack, which will be vital at United. He could fit in very well, especially with Gary Neville's recurring injuries and Wes Brown's desire to leave. However, I'm not sure if Bayern will be willing to give him up: they've been big spenders lately, and I don't see them getting rid of a young German star like Lahm too easily.
