Madrid and United to raid Cahill and Arteta, leaving Toffees in sticky situation

It has been rumoured today that Real Madrid and Man Utd will make an approach for Everton's Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill respectively in the coming January transfer window.

Arteta has performed consistently well for the Merseyside club over the past few years winning Fans Player of the Season two years consecutively as well as picking up Players' Player of the Season in 2005/06, clearly indicating his good relationship with both staff and fans.

However, despite signing a new five-year deal with the club in June, the 25 year old has been linked with a move back to Spain with La Liga champions Real Madrid, an offer which may just be too tempting for the midfielder to refuse. It is thought that Madrid will bid somewhere in the region of £12 million for Arteta.

Fellow Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been linked with Premiership Champions Man Utd, who may also have to splash out up to £14 million to secure the Australian's signature. Cahill has been blighted with injuries this season but his recent return to the Everton line-up and his outstanding performances in the few campaigns prior to this one may just interest the Premier League contenders.
