Walcott starting to mature
Theo Walcott is now showing signs of maturity in his game after last season he struggled to show much when he got the chance. There was no doubt that Theo would start scoring goals as soon as he started playing and tonight he got his first goals at the Emirates stadium in a memorable 7-0 win against Slavia Prague.
Walcott, who was signed by Arsenal nearly two years ago from Southampton for a staggering fee of 12 million pounds for a 16 year old at the time. Many people were touting him as the next Henry at Arsenal when he first signed and he got a surprise call up to the England squad for the 2006 World Cup, something which many people felt he could of done without.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has used Walcott mostly in Carling Cup matches over the previous two years but in these games he struggled to show what everyone was expecting of him, but in the last three or four games for Arsenal, Walcott has shown me something that has made me think he can become an Arsenal great.
Walcott gave a smashing performance against Bolton at the weekend when he came on, setting up one of Arsenal's two goals. Tonight I saw the highlights of the game and in some clips he looked unstoppable. He was very close to grabbing a hat-trick but it wasn't to be, but nevertheless he still bagged two.
Seeing Walcott playing tonight, it was amazing to think that this kid is only 18 years old. Just think how good he could be in three or four years time. I am really glad Arsene is starting to give him more of a chance at Arsenal and I think with time he can only get better. It will be very interesting to see his progress over the coming months and years.
