Arsenal and Spurs to go head to head for Brazilian playmaker

Arsenal and Tottenham are to spend January battling it out for Weder Bremen playmaker Diego. The Brazilian international is widely regarded as one of the best midfield players in the world and has now caught the eye of both Harry Redknapp and Arsene Wenger, who are keen to bring him to England.

Diego, 23, has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League with Chelsea understood to be keen admirers but for whatever reasons he remains a Bremen player. Both Arsenal and Spurs are likely to splash the cash in January with Diego now thought to be a number one target for both North London clubs.

Diego has spent the last two years with the Bundesliga giants since moving from Portuguese side FC Porto. He has an impressive strike rate for an attacking midfield player, bagging 31 goals in just 100 appearances. I personally would love to see Diego move to England. He is quality player who I feel would definitely be a magnificent signing either side in question.

Spurs playmaker the man to answer Chelsea's injury problems?

Chelsea could make a surprise January move for Tottenham attacking midfielder Giovani Dos Santos. The Mexican international has struggled to nail down a first team place at White Hart Lane since joining the club from La Liga giants Barcelona and a January move has been speculated in recent days.

Chelsea boss Luis Felipe Scolari is looking to add to his squad following injuries to key players such as Michael Essien and Joe Cole once the transfer window opens. Dos Santos, 19, has only made six appearances in the league for the North London club and a January exit looks a possibility now with Chelsea ready to offer the player an exit route from Spurs.

Dos Santos last played for Spurs under former manager Juande Ramos and has recently been sidelined with an injury. It has been a real shame not to of seen more of the promising youngster in the first third of the season. Dos Santos came to England with a massive reputation and in fairness to him he had a decent pre-season but unfortunately for him and indeed Spurs fans he hasn't been able to show his undoubted ability in the league.

The Mexican playmaker costs just £4.5 million in this season's "You the Manager" and in my view is definitely worth a look. So follow the link below to enter your team to be in with a chance of winning some terrific weekly and monthly prizes.

Premier League manager to be given massive £200 million kitty

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is to be given £200 million to spend on new players as the clubs Arabian owners look to turn the club into one of Europe's elite. City have struggled so far this season, currently lying just two points of the bottom of the Premier League table with the side in much need of improvement.

Just how much Hughes would be given to spend on strengthening the team has been speculated for weeks, but now it appears as though the owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan has come up with a figure. City have been linked with nearly every player in world football over the past few months but Hughes is believed to be interested in David Villa and Lassana Diarra in particular.

It will certainly be fascinating to see how City go about spending all the money in January. With Hughes currently under pressure at the club, I feel the transfer window can't come soon enough for him. I think City will need to sign players at the very beginning of the window so they can have as much time as possible gelling the new signings into the side.

Judging by the picture, Hughes looks pretty chuffed at what he has to spend!

Arsenal's title ambitions already dead after another defeat

Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League have today been dealt a massive blow. Arsene Wenger's men were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at the Emirates this afternoon, a defeat which leaves them nine points behind leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Martin O'Neill's
men made their intentions clear from the off, with Ashley Young forcing Manuel Almunia into action with less than a minute on the clock. Villa defender Curtis Davies kept the sides level when he made a outstanding clearance off the line from a Cesc Fabregas shot.

The away side were awarded a penalty just five minutes later when Theo Walcott was penalised for bringing down Young in the Arsenal penalty area. Young took the penalty himself, however he saw his effort saved by Almunia which saw the sides go in level at the break.

Villa took the lead with 20 minutes left on the clock. Ashley Young whipped in a beautiful ball from the right and saw Gunners defender Gael Clichy put it into his own net. Arsenal were nearly level moments later when Emmanuel Adebayor headed onto the post but Villa then managed to clear.

The visitors wrapped up all three points with just 10 minutes remaining. Gabriel Agbonlahor slotting home from the edge of the area to send the away fans home very happy indeed. Although we are only thirteen games into the season, I firmly believe Arsenal's chances of winning the title have ended today. Credit has to go to Villa who went to win the game, not just sit back and try and snatch a point.

Elsewhere in the Premier League it finished : Bolton 0-2 Liverpool, Fulham 2-1 Tottenham, Blackburn 1-2 Sunderland, Newcastle 2-2 Wigan, West Ham 0-0 Portsmouth, Man United 5-0 Stoke City.
